Names can create controversies !!!!
Little did my parents( in particular , my grannie) realize that my name cud also be in that list...
b4 i proceed , this is my short and sweet name :SHIVA SHANKARI S ( S for Subramanian)
Of late , my name has been a favourite topic of ridicule for some , who consider it to be old -fashioned.... Afterall, whatz in a name......
Probably my parents would have never imagined that a "name" cud create so much of complications, right from the difficulty of addressing me, guessing my gender and the list goes on....
Ever since my childhood , only a handful of people have addressed me with my full name....(quite difficult i understand.....)
Neverthless, i have got accustomed to the myriad versions of my names ..starting from my pet name "ajju" which all my folks know of... I can quote a few instances where some of them were unaware of my official name....
Then it was "Shiva" , thro' out my school .It didnt stop at that..Things worsened when i joined college.Bitsians names were quite common and i owe mine "Gako" to my thickest buddy...
But "gako" was prevalent only among my frnds circle..."gako" got transformed into "gaiko"
by few becoz of the pronunciation....
"Shanky" (short for shankari) was added to that list when i joined a drama club in pilani...
I thot that was the end of the "name" game...But to my dismay when i entered the corporate world , the best minds in the industry racked their brains and finally called me "shankari" becoz
shiva seemed to be a common name for a guy....
The list goes on.... "pete"( which is used by my dad and brother).
Finally to my shock , even my inlaws found it difficult and my dad-in-law calls me "shivi".........
I know anyone who reads this blog , must have gone crazy...but imagine a person living with so many names... I cant even include a common signature in my email ,becoz different sets of people know me by different names....
At the end of the day!!!! Afterall its a name and i have fun managing so many.....
I hope that there are no more additions to this list............. have decided to name my kids with max 6 - 7 letters..(not more........................)

Of all the things you had said you failed to mention about your name being endlessly ridiculed by the most important person in your life (your sweetheart)!! :).....
hope after reading this blog, pals would agree that "even if everything is not behind a name there is defly something in a name"..... after all somebody has written such a big blog over it!!
haha.. well said.. may be our parents shd have named pete "kollangudi karuppayee " or "mookhozughi mookaayee" then probably she wud have cribbed less.. :P
May I also add Gako that besides the confusions with your name - you have also given some of the most "atrocious" names to some of
your friends!!
Sample a few - " Bulb, Goiyya(Guvva) girl, Anda, Big :(, Gubs, Ganglee" and what not!

we wrote ur name in block letters with raisins in sugar during engagement and above all that
we took 5 snaps in different angles and sent it to him.. nevertheless..
wat matters is the attitude and not the name.. so you dont have to worry abt it!!!
